Beginning with a forage and salvage of natural and found materials -with the eye of the magpie… to create something special and scary…a mask. After our walk collecting interesting material for masks and stories of the plants along the way, we head back to camp (under canvas). Ferns and feathers, bits of leather…we begin to build. With strips of salvaged material to tie headbands and large fronds of kelp seaweed we cut out holes for the eyes and make new ears out of moss…all plants will be skin sensitive and sustainably foraged. We let our imagination lead the way then and see what comes of the impromptu masks. We create the masks and share more stories to find a spirit or theme to fit each mask.
