Athboy Ancestral Garden – Where the Samhain Fire Comes to Life
At the heart of the Púca Festival lies Athboy, a place deeply rooted in Samhain tradition. Overlooking the town is Tlachtga (the Hill of Ward), one of Ireland’s most sacred sites, where ancient fires once marked the Celtic New Year and summoned gatherings from across the island.
Today, Athboy’s Fairgreen transforms into a vibrant festival hub — a space to gather, reflect, and celebrate the turning of the season. Here, the spirit of Samhain is brought to life through fire, light, performance and storytelling.
Visitors can experience:
The Ancestral Light Park – a luminous installation inviting reflection and connection.
A curated Local Crafters Market showcasing Irish creativity and seasonal wares.
A Living History Village where warriors, storytellers and craftspeople share the old ways.
The arrival of a Giant Drum – a dramatic new festival feature (details to come).
Family-friendly circus shows by day and captivating adult circus performances by night.
The Pyro Collective Fire Performance on Thursday 30th October.
The ceremonial Lighting of the Samhain Fire on Friday 31st October.
As darkness falls, visitors are invited to leave personal messages for their ancestors, which will be carried to the Samhain Fire. This symbolic act honours those who came before and rekindles a sense of connection, in a place where the veil between worlds grows thin.
Sustainability Tent
The Sustainability Tent returns this year with a series of engaging talks and activities focused on sustainable living. Building on last year’s success, this space will explore how ancient traditions can inspire modern innovations for a greener future.

It’s a peaceful retreat designed to support neurodiverse visitors and anyone in need of a break from the bustle.
